    Critical AI Literacy 1: A Professional's Framework

Your students are using AI. Their families are asking about it. Your district needs a policy. And you're the one who has to figure out what all of this means for the lesson you're teaching next period.

This 8-hour credentialed PD course gives you the frameworks to make defensible professional decisions about AI in your practice. You'll leave with a working portfolio, a redesigned assessment, five reference cards for your planning desk, and the Performance Paradox. That's Blueprint's strategic frame for what happens when AI makes student work look more capable than the underlying learning actually is.

Built by a National Board Certified Teacher and ISTE Certified Educator from Johns Hopkins, with an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction and 20+ years of K-12 classroom experience.

Built by a Teacher, for Teachers

This course was built by a National Board Certified Teacher and ISTE Certified Educator from Johns Hopkins University, with an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction and 20+ years of K-12 classroom and curriculum design experience. Every pedagogical decision in the course reflects that experience and is defensible in front of a curriculum director, a department chair, or a skeptical colleague.

    Who This Course Is For

    • Teachers who want a framework, not a tool tutorial.
    • Instructional coaches who need language for the conversations they're already having.
    • Anyone who has read a suspiciously polished student essay and wanted to know what to do about it.
    • Anyone who has to answer a parent question about AI at curriculum night and wants to sound like a professional when they do.

    What You Learn

The course is built around four modules and a five-section professional portfolio you complete across all 29 lessons.

    Module 1: Rethinking the Room

Foundational thinking on what AI actually is, and the Professional Judgment Test. Five questions for evaluating whether any AI tool belongs in your classroom.

Module 2: AI as a Planning Partner

Prompting as a professional skill and the FACES review protocol (Fidelity, Accuracy, Context, Equity, Sources) for evaluating AI-generated planning materials. Applied lessons on lesson planning, differentiation, and feedback.

Module 3: AI, Students & the Learning Question

The Tutor Mode vs. Answer Mode distinction (with the beneficial and detrimental cognitive offloading binary underneath), the Three-Question Integrity Frame for evaluating student work, and the Four Principles of AI-Resistant Assessment Design. This is where you meet the Performance Paradox in full: AI use often makes students look more capable in the moment than they actually are. This module gives you the assessment redesign work that closes the gap.

Module 4: Building Your AI Practice

A three-question data privacy check, a three-question equity check, a five-question policy reading protocol, four family conversation postures with a matched four-part response structure, and three types of class-level student conversations. The professional-outward-facing work.

    Learning Objectives

    • Apply the Professional Judgment Test to evaluate any AI tool against classroom context and learning goals (Module 1)
    • Use the four elements of strong prompting (Role, Task, Context, Format) to produce professionally usable AI outputs (Module 2)
    • Apply the FACES review protocol (Fidelity, Accuracy, Context, Equity, Sources) to evaluate any AI-generated planning material (Module 2)
    • Distinguish Tutor Mode from Answer Mode student AI use and teach the distinction to students (Module 3)
    • Apply the Three-Question Integrity Frame to evaluate student work in an AI-accessible classroom (Module 3)
    • Redesign an assessment using the Four Principles of AI-Resistant Design to address the Performance Paradox (Module 3)
    • Build a defensible classroom AI policy and communicate it to families, administrators, and students (Modules 3 and 4)
    • Assemble a five-section Critical AI Literacy Leadership Portfolio documenting your professional AI practice (all modules)

    What You Leave With

A five-section Critical AI Literacy Leadership Portfolio: starting point and professional stance, AI planning practice, classroom AI policy, assessment redesign, and communication plan. Five quick reference cards, one per framework, designed for the planning desk. A redesigned assessment you can use with students. And a credentialed relicensure certificate on the other end of an 80% passing standard.

Working artifacts. Things you'll actually reference and use, well past course completion.
